Students Abroad
Options for studying abroad
There are various options for students at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences to go abroad within the study programme. On the one hand, there is the option for students to complete the so-called 'Scientific Practice Project' abroad. On the other hand, there is the possibility to participate in the study programme "International Physiotherapy". There are scholarships for both studies abroad. A block week abroad was also offered.
Scientific practice project abroad
In the 8th semester of the ELP and EP-Dual programs, students complete Scientific Practice Projects (WPPS). So far, 9 students have completed a WPP in Perth, Western Australia, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tampin. The projects took place at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. The students got an insight into physiotherapy at a large "tertiary teaching hospital" as well as into physiotherapy education at Curtin University.

International Physiotherapy (B.Sc)
The degree programme International Physiotherapy is a special degree form for students of the Bachelor's degree programme in Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy, with an emphasis on physiotherapy.
Students admitted to this form of study, after completing their vocational training at a vocational school, study two semesters at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and two semesters at one of the partner universities in Australia, Ireland or Schwitzerland, before writing their Bachelor's thesis in the eighth semester at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. The programme leads to a German Bachelor of Science degree.

International block week







The Physiotherapy Department of Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences organized an international block week in San Diego, California, for students from various health professions (Physiotherapy, Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy; at both Bachelor’s and Master’s level). A total of 18 students participated in the excursion.
The aim of this block week was to gain insight into Allied Health in the USA/California. The excursion included a visit to the School of Health Professions at our partner university, National University in San Diego, as well as tours of hospital facilities.
Learning Objectives
- To understand differences in Allied Health regarding autonomy, education, and clinical work between Germany and the USA
- To learn about differences between various healthcare systems
- To improve communication skills in English
- To explore opportunities for AI in healthcare management
- To gain intercultural experience on both professional and personal levels
During the block week of October 22-27, 2018, an Ireland excursion was offered to physiotherapy students of the occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy program as well as the dual bachelor's degree program in occupational therapy, physiotherapy under the direction of Prof. Dr Tampin.
The excursion included the following learning objectives:
- to understand the differences in physiotherapy regarding autonomy, education and clinical work between Germany and Ireland
- to get to know the concept of "First Contact Practitioner" and "Advanced or Extended Scope Physiotherapist
- to get to know the differences of different health care systems
- to gain an insight into the importance and scope of physiotherapy research
- Improve communication skills in English
