- Brief description
The processing of projects is a central task of the professional field of landscape planning. Landscape planning is understood in the sense of the European Landscape Convention. The definition goes beyond that of the Federal Nature Conservation Act and also includes environmental impact assessment. The project studies enable students to develop planning issues in the context of a concrete project task, to identify and implement suitable processes and methods for dealing with them, and to present and reflect on the results for different target groups. The tasks for the projects Landscape Planning A-C become increasingly complex in the course of the semesters.
The project "Landscape Planning C" deals with a complex planning task of landscape development and requires the students to develop a relevant concept in a short time (a few weeks) and in the situation typical for current planning processes of "not knowing everything", and to present and reflect on this in a clear way.
- Teaching and learning outcomes
Project procedure based on the usual service phases of the HOAI in landscape architecture and on activities in planning offices:
- Analysis of the task
- Evaluation of technical preliminary information
- Specification of the questions
- Delineation of the planning area
- Carrying out surveys and evaluations of the existing situation
- Preparing the development of possible solutions, goal and concept development
Organisation of work: time planning, working in groups, processing and presenting subject-specific topics
- Overall workload
The total workload for the module is 300 hours (see also "ECTS credit points and grading").

- Remark on the assessment methods
The standard form of assessment is a written project report.
Alternative forms of examination may be selected by the examiner and then announced at the start of the course.
- Exam duration and scope
additional presentation in front of a professional audience and media preparation
- Knowledge Broadening
The students get to know procedures for the elaboration of landscape development concepts for urban or rural areas.
- Knowledge deepening
The students are able to connect individual work steps of the planning process in a problem- and goal-oriented way. They get to know planning methods by trying them out on a concrete application and reflecting on them.
- Knowledge Understanding
Students learn to learn by critically reflecting on their process of knowledge generation on a regular basis.
- Application and Transfer
The students learn to classify the knowledge generated on the concrete application case in the current planning discussions and to transfer it to other spatial contexts.
- Academic Innovation
Students learn to comprehend both methodological and subject-related innovations in the context of current research results and to find them themselves.
- Communication and Cooperation
Students learn to work together in diverse project groups in a goal-oriented and appreciative manner. They learn to present and reflect on arguments, information and ideas.
- Academic Self-Conception / Professionalism
Students learn about the tasks of planners and reflect on their role in planning processes in the design of central tasks for the future.
